Hartland Quay: https://www.hartlandpeninsula.co.uk/beaches-beauty-spots/hartland-quay.html

The spectacular cliffs at Hartland Quay with their incredibly contorted rock layers are always worth a visit and at low tide there is plenty of sand, rock pools and rocks to scramble over.  In wild weather it is the perfect place to appreciate the power of the sea and wind as the waves crash against the cliffs and shore.

With access to the South West Coast Path both North and South from the Quay, it makes an ideal start/finish point for a wide variety of walks and  the Wreckers Retreat Bar for fabulous local food and drink (including fish straight from the sea) and the Hartland Quay Museum which covers the history and legends of the quay, customs houses, shipwrecks and smuggling activity.

Hartland Point and Lighthouse: www.trinityhouse.co.uk/lighthouses-and-lightvessels/hartland-point-lighthouse

Hartland Point Lighthouse was built by Trinity House in 1874 as a guide to vessels approaching the Bristol Channel.

The views are amazing, but be aware that there is a small fee (in cash) to visit.

Clovelly: www.clovelly.co.uk

Clovelly is a beautiful, picturesque fishing village, steeped in maritime atmosphere and history. It was once owned by the Queen of England!

Originally the estate was owned by William the Conqueror, King of England, gifted to his wife and then had many royal associations until 1242 when first acquired by the Giffard family.

Until the middle of the 19th century Clovelly was unknown to the outside world.

Step back in time and explore what a fishing village was like a historical fishing village. There is also a pottery, and a donkey stable.

Wear your most stable shoes! The floor is cobbled throughout and extremely steep.

N.b. There is a fee. We recommend pre-booking

Big Sheep Amusement Farm: www.thebigsheep.co.uk

One of Devon’s BIGGEST all weather attractions, The BIG Sheep started life in far more humbler surroundings and has since grown to be one of Devons top days out.

Beaches: www.hartlandpeninsula.co.uk/beaches-beauty-spots

There are near endless beaches worth visiting.

Our family favourite is Sandymouth Bay - Make sure you go at low-tide or there may not be a beach!

Lundy Island: www.landmarktrust.org.uk/lundyisland

Lundy lies off the coast of North Devon, where the Atlantic ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America, a granite outcrop, three miles long and half a mile wide.

In the hubbub of the modern world, it is a place apart, peaceful and unspoiled.

Highly recommended!

Best way to get there is by ferry, quickest is by Helicopter! See here for prices and timetables

We've barely scratched the surface! There is so much more to discover. What will you find to do and enjoy?
